Last planning application by PJL for West Orchard

Residents have this week received a letter from Central Bedfordshire Planning Department advising them of a revised planning application being made by PJ Livesey for 15 houses on the West Orchard, adjacent to the Hall. Details can be found on the Central Beds planning portal, by going to http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/portal/index.asp and entering the case number cb/10/02501.

In case you did not receive a copy of the letter directly from Central Bedfordshire, you can see it here. Click also for a copy of the Planning Application and Planning Justification Statement.

Central Beds enforcement

Central Beds have confirmed that they are taking enforcement again PJL for the standard of some of their work at the Hall, in particular pointing and brickwork. As you may have noticed, some work is now underway to rectify this. There will be no cost to residents for any of this remedial work.

Travellers site update

On the 23rb Feb 2010 the Central Beds Sustainable Committee passed recommendations on the preferred sites for gypsy & travellers in the old MBDC area.

There are no longer any sites proposed for Stotfold but the site in Hitchin Road Arlesey remains a possibility and the pitches have been increased from 4 to 10. This equates to an average of 17 to 25 caravans plus other vehicles. It is also understood that this could rise to 15 pitches in the future.

The Arlesey site is just over 1 mile as the crow flies from Fairfield Hall.

Arlesey Town Council accepted the allocation of 4 pitches but are opposed to the increase to 10 pitches and are asking Arlesey residents to object by writing to the Forward Planning Committee at Central Bedfordshire Council, Priory House, Monks Walk, Chicksands, Shefford, SG17 5TQ. If you wish to make a comment about this proposal you should also write to Central Beds or you can post your letter to Arlesey Town Council offices  (address below) and they will forward to CBC on your behalf.

At present no date has been selected for the start of the 6 week period of public consultation by CBC.

We’ll update you on newsletters and on the website as and when we have any further information.

Planning application by PJL

This is a short update to keep you apprised of the situation on the above planning application, which is now under reference CB/09/06489/FULL.

There was little time to produce comment on the proposed development but thanks to a small number of determined Hall residents using signs around the Hall and organizing petitions at the Hall and beyond it was quickly brought to the attention of a wide number of people in the area. This hard work was rewarded with responses that almost exclusively objected to the planning application. The FPRA was also instrumental in alerting residents to this proposed development for which we owe them our thanks.

This activity resulted in Central Bedfordshire Environment & Planning Services being inundated (their description) with letters and telephone inquiries with representations being delivered from as far away as Australia. The FHRA would offer many thanks to all those who found the time to send comments to Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) on the proposed development.

Residents were able to obtain professional advice on the orchards from Michael Clarke from Tewin Orchard (http://www.tewinorchard.co.uk/). Michael’s report, highlighting valid objections on ecological grounds, can be viewed by clicking here.

Local councillors have also been actively involved in the process and the CPRE (http://www.cpre.org.uk/home), who were unaware of the development until informed by Hall residents, immediately contacted the CBC to express their concern of being overlooked in the planning process and advising them to reject the application.

A number of further initiatives are currently being followed but for the present we await a decision from the CBC planners. Please feel free to contact us at this email address for further information on this proposed development.

The FHRA has received notice from the Planning Services department of Central Bedfordshire Council of a planning application that will affect some and maybe many Fairfield Hall residents. On 16 July the Hall developer, PJ Livesey, registered an application with the planning authority to construct 26 proposed townhouses in the west orchard at Fairfield Hall.

Please see the attached letter from Central Bedfordshire Planning Services for further details on the application. Also attached are two supporting documents (the design and access document and a justification statement, which we strongly advise residents to read) and a document from the FHRA containing points for consideration.

For a map of the west orchard, please see Planning Appplication CB/09/05488 on the Central Bedfordshire Planning Services website.
